When the pandemic hit, the Hampton Roads Community Health Center (HRCHC) was one of the first places in Portsmouth, Virginia where people could get tested. Nearly a year later, it received some of the first COVID-19 vaccines. Employees stayed late into the night to administer shots, with lines of people sometimes forming out the door.
For their work, we named the entire COVID-19 nursing team at HRCHC to the winners list for our inaugural “Nurses of Note” awards program, which was launched to highlight the invaluable work nurses around the country do every day. This team worked with unwavering resolve to serve the underserved throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
